Sidewalk Chalk Paint

20 October 2009

Way back in July, my largely pregnant self actually had the energy to do a project with K. Our timing was mainly weather related; we had a surprising day where the high was only 95 instead of 105. Boy did that feel nice!

So we made chalk paint! You can find a number of recipes/descriptions of what to do. I found the one at Skip to My Lou.

We only made three colors. K wanted blue, red (pink), and yellow.

It was hard to keep the consistency of the “paint” consistent. I kept grabbing the brushes and stirring a bit to keep it from getting sludgy on the bottom.

We both painted turtles. Mine is the blue one on the left. K’s is yellow and up at the top.

I found it a bit frustrating that the color was so light as you were painting. It was almost just as if we were painting with water. But then the paint dried, and then the colors were quite pretty.

I don’t know if I’d do it again, and I’m amazed K stuck with it all the way from mixing through the painting. I’m glad we did it though.
